Vietnam’s first semiconductor chips are produced by the tech company FPT.
According to a press statement issued by the firm on Wednesday, FPT Semiconductor unveiled its first IC chips in August 2022 for use in Internet of Things (IoT) medical devices. These chips were designed in Vietnam and produced in South Korea. To get its “Make-in-Vietnam” chips into markets in Australia, Taiwan, and mainland China, the company is actively working with partners.
With Japan, Taiwan, China, and the United States as its primary markets, FPT Semiconductor intends to sell 25 million chips by the end of the next year to address a variety of needs in the telecommunications, Internet of Things, automotive technology, energy, and electronics industries.
FPT hopes that by becoming a major supplier to local businesses in addition to exporting “Made in Vietnam” chips, it will complete the supply chain for Vietnamese businesses that require manufacturing equipment between 2023 and 2025. According to FPT Semiconductor, which cited a recent report by the American market research firm Technavio, the size of the semiconductor market in Vietnam is expected to surpass US$6.16 billion by 2024.
According to Nguyen Vinh Quang, CEO of FPT Semiconductor, the company is developing and commercialising its chips for domestic as well as foreign markets, including China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the U.S., and Europe.
According to the corporation, integrated semiconductor microchips are a crucial component of electronic devices that affect work performance and have a significant impact on the price of all electronic systems.
In the context of enterprises across the world racing to digital transformation and growing their device ecosystems, the production of integrated semiconductor IC chips has become the mainstay for the development of electronic systems, according to FPT Semiconductor in the press release.
According to the corporation, businesses and organisations in Vietnam’s semiconductor chip sector are mostly focused within technological institutes or international companies that invest in manufacturing facilities.
FPT Software, a subsidiary of the IT behemoth FPT Group in Vietnam, owns the chip design and production company FPT Semiconductor, which is based in Hanoi.
Over 1,000 global clients, including more than 100 Fortune Global 500 firms, receive comprehensive technological services from FPT Software, which employs over 26,000 people across 27 countries and territories, according to a news release.
